Mrs Anderson - My sisters and I will always remember heading across the street with our fuzzy little curly heads, $5.00 in hand, only to return with a fresh new "do" after sitting down in your chair. You and Mr Anderson were wonderful neighbors and a staple of Grace Street! We had the BEST neighborhood growing up. You will be missed. Thoughts and prayers out to the family. God Bless.

Last Tuesday I began the rest of my life without the friendship, support and love of my sister, Carol Anderson. She was strong and fought a long hard battle with Parkinson’s Disease. She gave it all she had. She was faithful to her religion, generous with her time to help those in need, honest to the core and loved by all who knew her. Due to her high standards, her and her husband , Bob raised three caring, devoted and successful sons who adored her. In turn they awarded her with 8 grandchildren who she went on to create an individual relationship with each and every one of them. She was amazing at keeping her family together. She remembered everything about every one of them and best of all, she shared it all with me. Before the symptoms of her disease forced her to slow down, she spent the winters in the Palm Springs area where Chuck and I would visit whenever we could. That was her “Happy Place” as her son, Bob, called it. Where she could golf any time she wanted. I took having a wonderful sister like her for granted, never thinking about losing her. We had such good times in the past. So last Friday I came home from the beautiful private service her sons arranged for her and started to try to figure out how I was going to live without my sister in my life.
She gave me the priceless gift of sharing her family with me. So through all of them and me, and all of the rest of the people who love her, she will live forever in our hearts and souls. I miss you so my dear sister. Rest In Peace. I love you.

My first visit to Chicago 35 years ago included all of the escapades partaken by Ferris Bueller on his day off. A Dodger/Cub game, Sears Tower, Pizza, Rush Street, Pancakes, etc. The trip was very exciting, although, the highlight of the trip was Brats and beer with Carol and her enthusiasm in her back yard. She made me feel very special and welcome. I will always remember and will always be grateful. Thank you Carol! Steve Brahs.

Carol and Bob Anderson were both strong positive members of our community. I always thought they were just the coolest, nicest couple. I posted a picture of them at my folk’s 50th party and I remember the fun group of people that sat at that table. They were decent and kind people who looked out for neighbors. My heart goes out to Bob and Tim and Terry and your families. I knew Carol to have a sharp wit and at times a quick retort and a lovely bright energy about her. The world will miss her big heart and beautiful smile. Sending love from Maggie and family

Some of my best memories were going to the Andersen’s house on Friday for hair day. My mom, great-grandma & 2 sisters had a standing appt every Friday. Mrs Andersen was such a sweet person. Since Bob & Tim were the same ages of myself & Diane we were entertained by the boys-.
I know that she will be missed greatly and I pray the she is resting in peace. Maybe she’s having a cup of coffee with my mom catching up on the gossip!
God Bless her and the family.
My heart goes out to you Mr. Andersen, Bob, Tim, & Terry.

Carol, my dear cousin, was my confirmation sponsor. In Oak Park, IL, that beastly hot summer night, with no air-conditioning, we (with all the other candidates and sponsors) were lined up across the front of St. Edmund's altar, awaiting the Cardinal. Weak from sweating and anxiety, I suddenly felt the comforting feel of Carol's finger rubbing my neck...a subtle, physical "It's
ok, Joey..." For all her feistiness, Carol's kindness and tenderness at that moment has been a loved and treasured memory for more than 60 years.
She will never not be vividly alive in my heart and memories.

Her Life

Obituary

January 30, 2021
Carol Ann Anderson passed away peacefully on January 26 at the age of 84 after a long and fierce battle with Parkinson’s.  She is survived by Robert V. (“Bob”), her husband of over 63 years.  She was devoted to her three sons, Bob, Tim and Terry as well as to her eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren, always reminding them in word and deed that “you only go around once!”

Carol was born in Gary, Indiana on July 31, 1936 to Henry and Elizabeth (nee Menning) Mutchinsky, and was later joined by her sister Marilyn (“Mimi”) Tortorice. She graduated Tolleston H.S. in 1953, and then obtained her beautician license before moving to Chicago where she met her husband-to-be through mutual friends.  After spending four married years in the city, Carol and Bob moved to Bensenville in 1962 and have resided in the same home to this day.

As the child-rearing duties wound down, Carol spent as much time as she could golfing socially with friends as well as competitively in the leagues at White Pines Golf Course, where she also was one of the founding members of the Youth Golf Program.  Carol was also able to indulge her passion for travel, and ultimately found her “happy place” to be the Palm Springs area of California where she and Bob spent many winter and spring months over the course of the last 30 + years.

A private service will be held for Carol, and in lieu of flowers, if you would like to make a donation, please do so in Carol’s name to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, of which she was a passionate supporter.

Carol’s family would appreciate the addition of any memories, stories or any other information about her life that you would like to share on her memory page at:

Horsing around

One winter when my husband I were in Palm Springs we went to a horse show, jumping, as we were walking along in the back stables a horse comes toward Carol. The trainer got a hold of it but not before Carol had a worried look
